The League of Extraordinarily Stupid Gentlemen…a comic book

I am happy to announce that I will be working with 2 Society Studios to produce a comic book for the Philadelphia morning show Preston & Steve. Brian Coates of 2 Society Studios is doing the penciling and I will be doing the inking.
The image above is a 2-panel selection from the book that shows the pencils in the original glory and the after effects of my inks.

About My Inking Process

The system I am using for this project is a bit different than usual. First, Brian emails the penciled pages to me with a few notes. I take his artwork and convert the pencil gray color into red and lighten it. I then print the full size page artwork onto 2 sheets of 8.5 x 11 card stock sheets. Essentially, dividing the artwork through the center. I then tape the 2 sheets together on the back seam creating a hinge and reuniting the page artwork. Now, it’s ready for my inks. I use a combination of tech pens, brush pens, paint brushes, toothbrushes, and whatever I think the panel calls for. Once the inks are complete I can scan each half of the page (big scanners are expensive) and reconnect the page artwork in Photoshop. Finally, I clean up the artwork in Photoshop, flatten it and email it back to Brian. From there it goes to the colorist…but that is a tale for another time.

Preston & Steve

Preston & Steve are Philly’s biggest morning program. You can find them every Monday through Friday from 6 am to 10 am on 93.3 WMMR. Podcasts and other fun downloads are available here: WMMR

The comic book, The League of Extraordinarily Stupid Gentlemen (LXSG), features the cast of Preston & Steve and their super-heroic alter egos. There will be plenty of comedy for the average reader and that comedy multiplies if you are familiar with the show.
This will be issue 2 in the LXSG series and it will be released this Spring.
Stay tuned for more info on the comic and check out the links above for more info on Preston & Steve.
